Specialist Subjects
A Junior School education at Huntingtower is genuinely holistic. Our specialist subjects each hold their own in a busy schedule. In addition to Maths, English, Integrated Studies and Wellbeing taught by classroom teachers, our students have lessons taught by specialist teachers in Art, Science, Technologies, STEM, Library, Indonesian, Music, Physical Education and Sport. Our Music program includes compulsory choirs, the Year 2 Strings program, ensemble learning in Strings, Percussion and Wind instruments, and a biennial musical production. Our Learning Enrichment teacher works closely with the classroom and specialist teachers, continually sharing information to best meet the needs of every individual student.
Reporting
Parents are provided with ongoing reporting through the internal platform, HT Connect. At the end of each semester, the teaching team provide a summative report. Parent Teacher Interviews are offered twice a year. Parents or staff may request additional interviews at other times during the year if the need arises. Students in Year 3 and Year 5 take part in the annual National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The results are shared with parents upon their receipt by the school.
Camps
Huntingtower offers a sequential progression of outdoor education camps and curriculum-based educational tours. • Year 2: One night camp • Year 3 & 4: Two nights Outdoor Education • Year 5: Two nights Outdoor Education • Year 6: Two nights Outdoor Education and three nights in Canberra
Extra Activities
Students are encouraged to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Opportunities include: • Tournament of Minds, Debating, Science Talent Search, Mathematics Olympiad • Leadership opportunities in the Junior School Council (JSC), Year 6 Captaincies in Music, Art and House • Interest clubs including Chess, Tech Club and Art Club • Chamber Choir for selected students in Years 4-6 • Individual instrumental music tuition at an additional charge to families.
