Cultural Immersion

Offered on a biennial basis, this tour provides students with the opportunity to perform, travel and experience music within an international cultural setting. Students will develop as musicians while also experiencing the history, architecture and traditions of the places they visit. Previous tours have included Italy, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. The tour combines performance, cultural exploration and shared travel experiences, helping students develop confidence, independence, adaptability and a deeper appreciation of music within its cultural context.

The 10-day Indonesian Cultural Immersion gives students the opportunity to experience Indonesian language and culture in an authentic setting. Students are encouraged to use Indonesian throughout the program, building confidence to speak, make mistakes and continue communicating in real-world situations. Cultural experiences include Indonesian cooking, batik making and pottery in Kasongan Village, as well as visits to local neighbourhoods, markets and significant sites including Borobudur Temple. Students also visit Brayat Pinuji Orphanage, spending time with local children and learning about community life.

The VCE Indonesian Language Immersion provides senior students with an intensive experience of Indonesian language and daily life. Students spend time in Jakarta and Bogor, including a week at Dwiwarna Boarding School where they attend classes alongside Indonesian students and experience school life in a different cultural setting. Throughout the program, students communicate in Indonesian, building fluency and confidence through authentic interactions. Community experiences, including visiting an orphanage in Bogor, further strengthen their language skills and cultural understanding. Friendships formed with Indonesian students provide valuable insight into contemporary life and bring greater cultural context to students’ VCE language studies.
