HSAC Swim School
The Huntingtower Sports and Aquatic Centre opened in 2011 and is comprised of an eight lane, 25m training pool and a 12.5m teaching pool. The centre runs Learn To Swim (LTS) classes and a Squad Pathway program for all ages. All classes are open to the public as well as the Huntingtower school community.
Learn to Swim Program
The Learn To Swim (LTS) program consists of 6 levels that are specifically designed to ensure that each student will graduate the class with the skills they need for the next levels, and proficiency in elements of water safety. The LTS program is targeted at children from 3+.
Squad Pathway Program
The Squad Pathway program has been designed to provide a training group which will tailor to all athletes. Whether it be swimming to compete, swimming to maintain technique or simply swimming for fitness and fun, there is a squad designed to cater for a range of goals and abilities. The Squad Pathway is broken up into competitive and non-competitive squads. There is no age restriction for the Squad Pathway program, however swimmers must be beyond an LTS 5 level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to supervise my child?
Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult while in the swimming centre at all times. Supervising adults must be actively supervising students and refrain from using mobile phones.
Can I take photos in the pool?
Due to child safety, we ask that adults do not take any photos inside HSAC.
What happens if my child cannot attend a class?
To be eligible for a make-up lesson, you are required to provide at least 24 hours’ notice of your child’s absence. As soon as you are aware that your child will be unable to attend during the term, please call or email Reception immediately.
In the case of illness on the day of a lesson, notification via email prior to 9:30am will allow for a make-up lesson. If multiple weeks are missed due to illness, a medical certificate may be requested.
Classes that are missed without notification are not eligible for a make-up class.
Swimmers will be granted a maximum of 2 makeup lessons per child, per class, per term. (ie. If you swim 3 times per week, you are entitled to 6 make-up lessons per term.) Make-up lessons cannot be rolled over to the following term unless it is a missed lesson in the final week of term due to illness and it is notified.
Please book your make-up lessons ASAP to avoid missing out at the end of the term.
How do assessments work for the LTS program?
Assessments will be completed throughout the term and swimming progress can be monitored through the First Class portal and discussed with the instructors. We aim to complete 2 assessments per child per term.
Will my child receive a certificate for leveling up in the LTS program?
Yes. Certificates will be available for collection at the reception desk. Please see the reception staff and they will gladly assist in providing you with a certificate for your child’s achievement! Once the child has levelled up, a notification will be sent to parents to let the know that their certificate is ready to collect. Certificates can also be downloaded and printed from your parent portal.
What equipment do I need to provide?
For LTS swimmers, all that is required is a cap, goggles, bathers and towel. For Squad swimmers, an equipment bag is required with a cap, goggles, fins/flippers, pull buoy and water bottle.
What is the difference between the SwimFit pathway and Competitive Pathway?
The Swimfit Pathway is focused on fitness and technique. These are for students who do not necessarily want to compete or attend numerous training sessions. The Competitive Pathway is building swimmers up to compete at swim meets and focuses on racing ability.
School Swimming
We currently have availability for school group bookings during the week. Our School Swimming program focuses on both water safety (as per the Victorian Water Safety Certificate program) and swimming strokes. Students will be educated in water activities, swimming development and survival skills and will receive a report and certificate on their progress at the conclusion of the program.
