There is a place on our campus that quietly holds the heart of our story: the Cottage.

For more than a century, the Cottage has stood as a silent witness to the unfolding journey of Huntingtower. From its early years as a horse stable in 1935 to later serving as a Principal’s residence, it has been a constant presence as generations of students, staff and families have come and gone. Thousands have walked past it. Now, it’s time to welcome thousands through it.

We are proud to launch the Brick by Brick fundraising campaign, a unique opportunity to restore this treasured building and preserve its place in our school’s future.

When Huntingtower moved to Mount Waverley in 1954, the School Council was inspired by the site’s picturesque setting and the character of its two existing buildings, including the Cottage. What made this structure even more remarkable was its foundation: thousands of bricks salvaged by hand from a demolished hospital in Doncaster, then carefully cleaned and laid into the very buildings we know today. It’s a story of resourcefulness, community and care that continues to inspire us.

Now, we have the opportunity to carry that same spirit forward. To restore the Cottage with the same sense of dedication and pride.

This fundraising project involves the restoration and repointing of almost 20,000 bricks, returning the original façade of the Cottage to its former glory with care and authenticity. This is meticulous work, and it reflects our deep respect for the role this building plays in our school’s history.

Through the Brick by Brick fundraiser, we invite our extended community to sponsor the restoration of these bricks. Each brick costs $10 to restore. You may choose to sponsor 10 bricks for $100, 50 bricks for $500, 100 bricks for $1,000, or nominate your own level of support. As a special acknowledgement, those who sponsor 100 bricks or more will have their name featured on a commemorative plaque displayed on the new brick wall opposite HSAC and be recognised as an honorary donor on our donations page, a lasting tribute to your role in this chapter of Huntingtower’s story.

All donations are fully tax-deductible, and every contribution, no matter the size, will help bring this vision to life.

This project is more than just restoring a building. It’s a way for us to honour our past, strengthen our present and build a lasting foundation for the future.
