We’re very excited to share that Hugh Perry of Year 9, was the winner of the Melbourne Legacy Junior Public Speaking Award - State Final, and will be going on to represent Victoria at the National Final in Sydney next month!
After winning his regional round and preliminary final, Hugh joined eleven other speakers from across Victoria at Shrine of Remembrance where they all presented a series of prepared and impromptu speeches.
He gave an excellent prepared speech on the importance of Remembrance, which resonated with the crowd and was elevated by the venue that he spoke in. He then presented a humorous and relatable impromptu speech on the topic of ‘Timing’.
This is an absolutely fantastic achievement for Hugh. The Legacy competition is one of the largest public speaking competitions in Victoria, and one of the few national public speaking competitions in Australia. The quality of the speakers was extremely high, and Hugh did an absolutely phenomenal job, speaking with great confidence and demonstrating a thoughtful understanding of the values that Legacy embodies.
An enormous thank you and congratulations also need to go out to Mrs Jody Goddard, who has put in a huge amount of work guiding all of our Legacy speakers, and for all her help in getting Hugh to this stage. It was clear in the final, how her guidance helped Hugh to connect with his audience and excel.
The National Finals will take place in Sydney on Monday 12 November. We are sure you will join with us in wishing him all the best for the Final!
